WELCOME To The Lopez Food Center

A Centralized Meeting Spot For Local Food Distribution Local Food Sales Local Food Opportunities Local Food Services Local Food Trainings Local Food Events

Working for an equitable food system and a strong local food economy through centralized access, sales, and farm services.

1 in 4 Lopez Residents worry about where their next meal will come from.

We vow to change that.

Equitable
Access

Becoming the home to both the Food Share and the San Juan Food Hub, we are dedicated to making local food easier to access.

Food
Opportunities

From food storage to food sales, from pop-ups to food events, we envision a variety of opportunities for local food producers.

Support
Services

From grant writing to small business courses, from equipment co-ops to revolving loan funds for local farms and food-based businesses, we plan to provide an array of support services.

We Believe

An equitable food system and a strong local economy are the keys to a healthy, sustainable life here on Lopez. For that to happen, we need a roof for it to happen under, a centralized meeting space where access is equitable, opportunities are plentiful and support is always available.

Our Projected First Year's Impact

Take a look at what we're working towards

After holding 6 community forums and meeting one-on-one with community members, we have narrowed down the need to the following areas:

Nourishing Food for All

The Lopez Food Center will be home to the Lopez Food Share, a food program that currently serves 300 low-earning families (approximately 1200 individuals) each month. It will also house the inter-island local food distributor, San Juan Food Hub.

Food Storage, Processing, Sales and Distribution

The Lopez Food Center building plans include a space for local restaurants to store their food, a commercial kitchen for food processing and preparing, and a retail space to sell value added and farm foods directly to the community.

A Community Gathering Space

The Food Center will be home to the Heart & Soul Recovery Cafe, as well local food trucks, providing a gathering space for pop-up community events, celebrations, trainings and more.

Trainings & Supports

The Food Center will provide critical training and supports to local food producers. From small business workshops to grant writing courses, we will listen to the needs and seek to provide programming that works for the success of all local food producers.

Our Mission

is to strengthen the San Juan County food system by providing Lopez Island with shared infrastructure for sustainable production and distribution, and to promote the health and well-being of residents of Lopez Island by ensuring that all in the community have access to healthy food and opportunities to build skills for the local food economy.
