The Cost, Budget and Need
We’re close—but we need your help to cross the finish line. With construction ready to begin, here’s a quick snapshot of our funding progress and what’s needed to bring the Lopez Food Center to life:
- Total Project Cost: $9,245,768 (excluding project reserves)
- Funding Secured: $6,272,740
- Remaining Construction Funds Needed: $3,010,000
- Reserve Funds Needed: $800,000
Why It Matters?
The Lopez Food Center is a vital resource, providing nutritious food to more than 1,000 individuals monthly. With more than 2,000 individuals eligible for low-income services, we are expecting a rise in need.
What's In it For Lopezians?
This Community-Driven Project Will Provide:
- A permanent home for the Lopez Island Food Bank
- A food hub to connect local farmers with buyers
- Commercial kitchen space for small food businesses and entrepreneurs
- A gathering place for educational programs and recovery support groups
Why Now?
The Timing is Urgent
- Shovel-ready: Permits are submitted, and construction estimates are complete
- Limited grant options: State and county funds primarily support housing, making private and federal funding essential
- No traditional loans available:Tenants are small businesses and nonprofits that cannot afford market-rate rents, making bank financing impossible
